Planning our visit to south Spain, we booked a hotel in Lucena, without knowing anything about the town. We were looking for a small quiet local town, between Cordoba and Granada...
Surprise! Surprise! at the Hotel's reception. On the desk were several Israelites/Jews items.  I asked the person on the reception and he said that these are local items, "Sefard, Sephardi…" he repeated.
I finished the check-in as fast as I could, not forgetting to ask for password for the local WIFI. Rushing to the room, I opened my tablet googling "Lucena"...  As starting to read…I started to feel excitement and the more I read, the more excited I was…
Coincidence? No! Not a Coincidence at all.
We discovered a beautiful city, with beautiful, special people. We discovered the "Lucentinos"…
Lucena's origin name was…Eli-Hoshana, in Hebrew it means "My God redeem/rescue/deliver me".
This name become "Al-Yussana" with the Arab occupation of Spain, and later when Spain was conquest back by the Christians, it became Lucena.
Eli-Hoshana – Lucena was a very important town at the golden age of Spain. It was a center of Talmudic studies. One can make a short visit to the town's tourist center and find a most friendly team with Jose Antonio Garcia Suarez the head of the office.
The mostly, I was impressed that the Mayor decided to preserve the Jewish cemetery. It's not obvious at all….
Lucena had many important scholars living there. One of the biggest is Rabbi Isaac ben Jacob Alfasi, (RIF).
Lucena, with such a person dwelling in your town, you have A Guardian in heaven, an Ambassador nearest to the Almighty who will, so we believe, guard you and bring prosperity to your town.
